“The Yankees can’t just win a series against Washington starting tomorrow. Anything less than a sweep is abject failure.” -Joel Sherman
I understand the Nationals are a miserable team right now, and others may disagree, but I really disagree with what Sherman is trying to say here. We should be expected to sweep the Nationals based on the brand name, the payroll and our players etc., but the only thing that would be an “abject failure” would be if we found a way to lose the series.
Sherman is usually very sympathetic to the Mets in his writing, so why do the Yankees have to win all three games against the Nats when the Mets have played them in three series thus far and only swept them once? Why do the Yanks have to win every game against the Nats and the Mets don’t? I understand it would be a letdown to lose a game to such a miserable team, but we all know in baseball that anybody can win on any given day.
If you asked me, the Yankees need to win two, and if everything goes our way, three would be great. Anybody else disagree?
this nats team is gonna lose 120 games this year, how could they take one from the yanks? Looks like i’ll be at the game thursday afternoon…how about u mj? lol
I agree Crank. We should sweep these guys, but anything can happen. They were swept by Tampa, but 2 of the games were very close. I’d be happy with 2 wins…joyous with a sweep. Lets show no mercy Yanks!

How can they take one from the Yanks? Idk, another awful Wang start could lead to a Yankee loss. Another game of the Yankees not touching pitchers because they’ve never seen them can happen. Basically, anything can happen, which is why labeling anything less than a sweep as an “abject failure” is ludicrous.

LOL! Nope (for a change).
My next one is on Sunday, 7/5 vs. Toronto. You gonna be there?

I’ve never understood this phenomenon. Yankee scouts and coaches should be utterly ashamed of themselves, and this goes back to the Torre years as well.
Fernando Nieve did have a nice fastball with movement on Saturday but, JEEZ, give me a break.
Its not just us. Remember the first time the Rangers saw Hughes? Or the first time The Mets saw Clippard? Both Yankee wins. I’m sure theres more examples out there.
@ clintfsu813:
and the 2nd time they saw hughes?
@ MJ:
nope, at least not that i know of haha
@ clintfsu813:
Sure that happens to other teams, it just seems like it ALWAYS happens to the Yanks whenever they face someone they haven’t seen before.
I agree Joey..and it is frustrating. I just noticed in the past some of our guys having some beginners luck.
So it looks like Dr. Andrews agreed with the other doctors that Marte has an inflamed shoulder. Anyone know what the timetable on this guy is?

Yeah, we’ll get Marte back some time before his contract is up in 3 years…but that may even be a stretch at this point.
Lol..this guy is garbage

Are you saying he’s the new Carl “American Idle” Pavano?
I have to say, not only does the Nady/Marte trade sort of look like a bust but extending Marte for three years is essentially the same mistake made with Farnsworth. At least the trade was defensible. The Marte extension…ugh.
Pavano, Farnsworth, the Marte extension…hey, who signed off on those deals?

You can make a case for Pavano and Farnsworth, who were both coming off incredibly productive years before the Yanks signed them. Especially Farnsworth, look at his numbers in 2005.
But the Marte extension still doesn’t make sense to me.
SEEYA to veras

My day has been made! Now, if the rain will just hold up…going to see the Pats host the Ducks tonight….

Maybe you can make a case for Farnsy, but Pavano was to be avoided at all costs.
The Marte extension was covered here.
@ Steve Lombardi:
It’s supposed to rain tonight? The calendar says June, we shouldn’t be getting this much rain
@ Raf:
