Anyone read/hear anything about the reasoning for DFA’ing Veras rather than Tomko?

      @ G.I. Joey:
i think they think they can trust tomko in no pressure blow out situations, where as veras has proved that u can’t trust him regardless of the score. In any event, I’d say Tomko’s days in the pen are limited as well.

I would think that it’s because Tomko could go multiple innings, but then again, so can Veras… Personally, I would’ve cut Tomko before Veras, but I agree with the general sentiment that it’s only a matter of time before Tomko’s gone as well.

Regarding game 1 against the Nats, IMO we were lucky to get the win and not be embarrassed. Tex’s and Cano’s RBI doubles should both have been caught. Then CC loses to an unknown pitcher due to a HR by a no name non-slugger.

Consider that plus the Castillo drop and 3 in a row to the Sox and how we are that close to looking forward to football season.

And once again, Sterling talks about what a great game CC pitched. Suppose he lost 3-2?

Did you see the game? I’d say that’s not fair, CC DID pitch a great game. He made 2 mistakes, and it cost him.

And suppose CC had gone 10 innings and allowed only one run in the 10th and the Yanks lose 1-0. Is that not a great game pitched by CC? The Win/Loss of a game is always out of the pitchers control since he does not bat as well. CC threw 7.2 IP of 3 run ball against a team with a solid line-up. The team may be pathetic, but their line-up isn’t. Personally, I would take 7.2IP/3ER ball from CC every time out there.

Also, for every time that Cano and Tex hit a fly ball that should have been caught, Nick Swisher drops a ball, Cano screws up a GB, A-Rod throws wide of first, or someone gets doubled off of first when they shouldn’t have. The weird quirks of the game generally even out. The Yanks have just gotten somewhat lucky the last few games. In a month’s time we’ll be talking about how the Yanks have gotten all the unlucky breaks.

From where I was sitting, it looked like Tex and Cano struck the ball pretty hard and a play would have been difficult, not to say it would have been impossible.

for the Cano hit, are you referring to the line drive to center field that he got a double ? I thought it was catchable if Dukes had a good jump. But it was hit right at him (which is the hardest ball to catch) and IIRC he was leaning forward before going back on the ball

      @ Corey:

That’s the one. I didn’t notice Dukes leaning forward, but that explains it. In any event, I’m glad the ball dropped!

I never bought into that “one bad pitch” theory. Especially if it results in a 3 run HR. How did the other 2 guys get on base? And no way should he give up 3 runs in one inning with a 2 run lead going in.
