Mr Green Tea is in a relatively weak division. The Bloody Blue Jays had a better record than the Dodgers last year! The 4th place team in the AL East came out with more wins than the first place team in the NL West (Blue Jays had 86 wins, the Dodgers had 84 wins). One of my brothers mentioned something very interesting….did St Joe get the feeling that things would go downhill and then left? Funny that, did he sense that the team would not be as good in previous years? He did take umbrage at the diminuition of his salary that’s for sure, but maybe he saw the writing on the wall……..

In the case of Gym Teacher Joe, if the GM spends 200 million dollars, he has a veritable supestar at every position, how much of the problem is he? TO me it comes down to Cash Man, because even if Dick Williams cam back he couldn’t motivate some of these overpaid superstars. The team has a lot of age on it AND there are holes despite spending 200 million dollars. Gym Teacher Joe is not perfect by any means but look at the what he is working with….an older team, a weak bridge to Mo, Pettitte nad Wang being up and down( in the case of Wang that’s an understatement). My precise point is that Cash Man is to blame in the end because he is the architect of this team .

That’s a case of apples and oranges at this point. The Yankees lost to a team that is not only the worst team in baseball BUT almost got swept at home by them! Corey, I know that it is typical of us fanatics to bring up instances where similar things happened in the past BUT to quote St Derek: “This is not the same team.”

@ Steve, remember when you intimated that the Yanks weren’t that good because they were beating bad teams? Mate, I didn’t agree with you 100% BUT in this case the Yankees lost a series to a Mickey Mouse team! The Nationals make the Blackbirds look like the 27 Yankees! Yeah, they can hit BUT their pitching? Amazing how these Yankee hitters made them look so good. Lannan is a decent enough pitcher BUT the other two? The fact that the Yanks couldn’t beat these Gnats is worrisome. Yes, it’s one series but the Gnats suck!

Actually, the defense was pretty good yesterday, with a couple of outstanding plays, and no sign of a lack of effort on that score.

When a team is not hitting, and the Yanks have not been hitting (with the exception of the Mets series) all the way back to the Rays series before the Sox series, then it looks like they’re “not trying”, “lifeless”, “dead from the neck up”.

Should a good team fail to hit the Nationals over two, three games? No, but it happens. Will it happen to the Red Sox when they play the Nationals soon? Alomst certainly not. Doesn’t mean it never happens. It does happen. Even to championship teams.

The Yanks havn’t hit over their last 12 games or so. They’re 5-7 in that time. That’s not really that bad, even if two of the wins were “really” “losses”.

Are they a championship team? Sure don’t look like one right now. Things change.

When the boss was making decisions like that, they Yankees were not very good. Firing a manager who has his club in a playoff spot is not the right move. If they miss the playoffs, that is a different story.

If The Boss were still in charge then Girardi would not be making the trip to Miami. It would be Donnie Baseball Act II. Mabye even Bobby V. stepping out of a non-stop flight from Japan with Yankees’ logo on the plane. Not sure if for better or worse but something would have happened.

People overrate the impact of managers if they think Girardi had anything to do with last night’s loss.

At this point teams should just bring up young pitchers from the minors to face us.
