Andy Pettitte’s statements about pitching at the new YS are disturbing. It has definitely gotten into the pitchers heads. This can lead to altering mechanics and pitch selection. And I think that it will impact Yankee pitchers more than visitors’ because they play there so often. A pitcher on another team may only pitch at YS once or twice in the season.
All the more reason to get Wanger back on track. Keep the balls on the ground.
I know there isn’t much action in here on the weekends, but am I the only one who thinks that it was an egregious error by all levels of management (but mostly Girardi and the coaches) that A-Rod hadn’t had a day off before yesterday? There have been many comments and stories about this, and I feel the blame lays almost entirely on Girardi and his staff. They should have forced A-Rod to take a day off at least a week and a half ago. To me, this is one of Girardi’s worst mistakes this year. He should have forced A-Rod to sit, no matter what A-Rod said. I think it was Girardi who said players are like animals (in that they never tell you what is ailing them.) So why did it take Girardi so long to give A-Rod even one day off?
I think it was a combination of things, I don’t think this is a “blameworthy” offense, but a miscommunication between the doctors, management and the player.
