Melky Cabrera’s BA/OBA/SLG line since May 25th: .194/.276./.328 (in 77 PA)
Makes you wonder if Cap’s back pension will ever arrive this summer for Brett Gardner?

Just like last year. At this point it’s so obvious he’s a 4th OF. Pity they didn’t trade him to the Brewers when they had a chance this past winter.

I dont know. I wanted to start Gardner in ST, but Melky did a nice job for a while, and even now while slumping, his approach at the plate is much better. I would use Gardner more, but I would give Melky another 3 weeks to a month as the starter.

Gardner’s a 4th OF too. I have no problem starting Melky over Gardner, I’d just rather that the team have a legitimate starting-caliber OF with one of Melky or Gardner on the bench “in case shit” (as Chris Rock says).

Right now, Melky is pretty much middle of the pack in OPS among CF’ers. If he can level off, not a ridiculous idea, he can be an average ML CF’er.

2009 OPS+
Melky: 103
Gardner: 101
Ellsbury: 88
Yet one is considered to be a rising start…
