When I first saw that Gomez catch during the game I thought it was amazing, but questioned whether he would have able to extend his arm like that if that center field wall wasn’t basically a garbage bag being pulled tight and it was a concrete wall. After seeing the replay this morning, the makeup of the wall did not aid him at all, but rather he just timed his leap perfectly. Awesome play.

indeed. It’s also too bad that they are getting rid of the metro dome, a player like Gomez is going to get a lot fewer hits i’d imagine without being able to chop it off the turf and beat out the throw

Speaking of outstanding, if you didn’t watch the game MJ you missed a rather impressive defensive display by Carlos Gomez. That kid not only robbed Alex of a grand slam, but he seemed to be sitting under everything. Very impressive.

there was actually another play gomez made that had me say “wow!” out loud, but it will never be shown on a highlight real cause he didnt make an out with it. It was a single to center off the bat of matsui and the ball hit a weird spot in the turf and itsead of rolling it sprang up really high and gomez had to make a leaping grab just to make sure it didnt get past him. That saved a run and a double(as tex ended up on 2nd), fantastic twitch reaction by the CFer. It’s a shame things like that don’t show up on defensive statistical metrics.

1) Sabathia has been everything I hoped he’d be. He’s had a couple of blips but that’ll happen from time to time. He’s been a stud on the mound, going deep into games, and has a presence about him that the Yanks haven’t had since the first time Clemens was in NY. I love CC.

I tuned in late because I was more interested in watching Clayton Kershaw pitch to the Mets. Man, that kid is good.

When I flipped over to the Yanks, it was already 10-1 in the bottom of the 6th and Sabathia was working on a 2-hitter. There’s nothing like a good ass-whipping to start off the final road trip before the All-Star break.
