steve – being that we started the trip 2-0, what would you be happy with last 4 games into the break? i’d have signed for 3-3 at the start but that would be a disappoinment now to a certain extent (though not terrible). at the same time, we have to be thrilled with 2-2 getting and 4-2 overall, no?
Yanks gotta take 2 of 3 from the Angels.
Today? It’s house money – it will be what it will be…
But, you want to see the Yankees take 2 of 3 from a very good team, on the road, as that’s one of the tests that a contender must pass, IMHO.
Yanks gotta take 2 of 3 from the Angels.

I’ll slightly disagree. I think you’re right on the nose in saying good teams should want and aspire to take two of three from other good teams on the road. But in fact, when a good team plays a good team, either one can take two of three. If the Yanks were good enough to take two of three from every good team ,on the road, this team would be an absolute powerhouse.
What do the Yankees “need” to do? Win one of three, on the road against a good team that historically has their number. But i’ll be very happy if they can find a way to steal two of them.
it really bothers me that they are sending aceves to start with a 65 pitch limit. Sure, the MG has been extremely efficient this year, but even with 65 pitches how much could we possibly expect? This just hinders the bullpen for no reason. I would have much rather called up someone for 1 start, let Aceves piggy back it, then let him join the rotation the next time the spot is needed.
“gotta” in your first sentence and “want to” in your third is an important distinction in my opinion. i know you meant the same thing, and i definitely agree with the “want to” part, but at this stage the yankees really don’t “have to” do anything but not get swept, agree with crank there. agree with you that we do want to see a good showing against a good team on the road as a solid test heading into the break.
unrelated, anyone else want to see girardi go multiple innings for hughes tonight if the opportunity presents itself? 5 would be a dream from aceves, and even that might be pushing the envelope given how moderately stretched out he is. if we have a lead in the 5th or 6th and aceves is done, i’d like to see him go to hughes and see if hughes can give us a strong 2 and get the game closer to mo.
related, anyone else tired of the mixing and matching, especially to mauer and morneau? they seem to be seeing the ball pretty well against coke. against them, but also in general, i’d like to see the 7th and 8th be hughes’, and let coke work earlier in the game. not all the time, but most of the time.
corey – absolutely nailed it.
Have we been given a reason why Mitre isn’t being given a shot? His numbers have been decent (though admittedly the sample size isn’t huge).
IIRC, Mitre is not on the 40-man roster, so, someone would have to go to get him up…
Mitre isn’t on the 40-man roster and a move would have had to been made. Nobody is really worth sacrificing so they gave it to Ace
April 28, 2009…
May 27, 2009…
and, now, today.
Any guesses on what these three dates are?
Well, looks like you beat me to the punch Steve

Ah…that makes sense.
Thanks

there’s plenty of moves that could be done, like DFA’ing the now useless Kevin Cash
or they could move nady to the 60 day dl and that creates a spot.

same thing you asked us to guess last time? Have fun
Bingo Corey – it was time for my slightly more than monthly call in to SNY.tv’s New York Baseball Today!
Just saw Alfredo Aceves making manual notes, in a notebook, between innings in today’s game. Gotta love the retro-old school effort there.
seem, now its the end of the 3rd and aceves has over 50 pitches. maybe another inning then what? Hughes for 2? then close your eyes and pick a name out of a hat for the rest of the game till hopefully mo?
and then where does that leave us for tomorrow?
I do smell a Brett Tomko sighting today.
Ace was not so Acey today. Maybe Robertson can give them some innings, now?

it wasn’t his fault…IMO the yankees didn’t put themselves in a position to win today, and frankly tomorrow as well.

Tex HR drought no more!
Yanks now with 7 straight “lucky” wins vs. the Twins.
Does this sweep count as real wins? Or are they “unreal” wins, and “really” losses.
Yanks now 51-34, at .600, having won 13-15, yet it would not shock me if they lost 2 of 3, or even all 3 over the weekend in Anaheim. CC goes Sunday. Hopefully that’ll be good enough to guarantee a win, though he will face Lackey, who they never seem to hit.
Matchups:
Friday: Joba vs. Saunders (another Angels’ pitcher they don’t hit)
Saturday: Pettitte vs. Weaver
Sunday: CC vs. Lackey
With the day off, the Angels were able to arrange their current best 3 starters to face the Yanks. Surprise, surprise.
Oh…Yanks have won 8 straight on the road now, and are 25-18 in road games, 22-18 if you don’t count the Mets.
