The New York Yankees and Boston Red Sox are tied for first place in the A.L. East standings, at this moment, each with a record of 51-34.

This means that you can throw out everything that’s happened for the Yankees and Red Sox, so far this year, and that “their” season starts today with 77 games on the schedule.

Whoever wins the most of their 77 games will be the better of the “Boston vs. New York” match-up. (I suppose that some may want to include the Tampa Bay Rays here as well – and their remaining 76 games. However, I want them to tie the Yankees and/or Red Sox first before letting them into the party.)

So, which team will win this 77-game season, New York or Boston? Me? I think it’s going to be very close – with maybe one game making the difference. What do you think?

You couldn’t have put it any better Steve. Every is dwelling on the 0-8 vs. the Sox, but as we look at it, we’re tied. What matter is the next 10 games they play against each other, and like you said, the overall 77 left.

Who will win it? Tough to say now. I expect both teams to do something, either minor or major, by the July 31 deadline, and then it’ll be quite a fight between the Yanks, Sox and Rays.

It’s going to be exciting guys, let’s go Yanks!

we cant expect to keep making up games that we lose to the Sox head-head… consider that the Sox will start playing better against other teams too and it would behoove us to atleast win 6 of the remaining 10 against the Sox with atleast one sweep…

It will be decided by injuries. If the Sox stay healthy, I still think they’re the better team. If they lose a few key player, all bets are off.

i think the yanks can take only if they at least split the next 10 with sox. if the take 6 out of 10 or more then they def win.
