P.S. – if you want to discuss the 2009 MLB All-Star Game, as a special treat, here – that’s O.K., today, too.

i got myself to watch the first few innings of this borefest (not a fan of the ASG), one thing that i found lame was fox didnt originally show the result of obama’s first pitch as they had it angled toward him as he threw (and didnt show pujols in the picture), I’m assuming in case he embarassed himself it wouldn’t have been on live national TV. Kinda lame.
I’m also not a huge fan of the ASG, and i’d actually love the Home Run Derby if it were about an hour and a half shorter. Three+ hours is way too long for an event that only offers two things: home runs and outs.
home run derby without the steroids is quite boring…heck i thought it was boring WITH the steroids
Actually, the home run derby only seems to be exciting when there’s an enticing part of the stadium that it’s being held in. The Monster in Fenway, the Bay in San Fran, the short porch in Yankee Stadium. When it’s held in a regular park like St. Louis, there’s just nothing to get excited about.
I love the ASG. I love the pageantry and I love the pre-game ceremonies where they introduce all the players. I loved the part where Obama was in each clubhouse, talking with all the guys at their dressing stalls. I just love the whole thing. Yes, the game itself can be disjointed with all the replacements, etc. but it’s one of my favorite moments in the baseball season.
I also love the HR derby as a concept although its year-to-year execution depends on the performances we see. I remember the year Big Mac and Sosa were hitting the balls over the Green Monster (awesome) but don’t think many other HR derbies have been memorable in general. Last year’s, with Hamilton bombing Yankee Stadium, was fantastic too. It always boils down to the players putting on fireworks, otherwise, I tune out.
Whoever said this is the worst week of the season had it right, made even worse by the fact that the Sox and Yanks don’t resume until Friday, so another day in baseball-less H-E-Double Hockey Sticks.
At least the result was the right one, and this time no one can accuse Papelbon of foot-in-mouth disease.
Here’s to an exciting pennant chase and since I am a traditionalist, may we both hold off the Rays and settle things in October.

What a joy it was to see him get hit hard last night. As much as I’m not a Rays fan, it was nice to see the Rays bail out the AL while that d-bag Papelbon got smacked around.
