With this, the Red Sox become favorites in the Doc Halladay sweepstakes and the Yankees lose yet another potential trade partner today to fill the void vacated by Chien-Ming Wang. With news of Wang’s need for surgery and that he might miss a good portion of next season, Cashman has to at least kick the tires on Halladay, if for nothing else, to drive the Red Sox cost up.

He won’t drive the Sox cost up. Unless the package involves Hughes and/or Joba, the Sox can offer a better package deal for Halliday.
Mike Silva seems to think that a package centered around Austin Jackson and having the Jays pick one pitcher and one hitter from the group of Jeremy Bleich, Zach McAllister, Austin Romine, and Eduardo Nunez would be as good if not better than what has been offered by other clubs. I don’t think that’s necessarily true, but what if (wild thought) the package involved four prospects? Would a four prospect package involving the above players be a way for the Yanks to avoid offering Joba, Hughes, or Montero? Is something like that even worth it?
@ G.I. Joey:
i would give them hughes, but not Joba and Montero. Hughes’ trade value is probably the highest right now since that start in texas
I’m sure the Jays are going to want a ML ready arm in return, so one of Hughes or Chamberlain will have to go to Toronto. That’s where the package starts.
