to be fair, fernando martinez is 20..i would have gone with Igawa over Kennedy and F-Mart, myself. There’s still chance Kennedy can become a contributer at the big league level…hey if Aceves can do it with his soft stuff, so can Ian.

Oh, I still think Kennedy will be in someone's rotation in the next 2-3 years. He'll finish his development, mentally, and wind up a #4 starter for a few years for someone. He might be better than that.

@ Rich

I don't want it to seem like I'm dismissing him, but at this point he is in his 5th minor league season so calling him up to take the place of an injured outfielder doesn't seem to radical.

The bigger issue, I think he has the potential to be a major league player but closer to a Melky type player than a Bernie Williams or a Juan Rivera type player. His numbers remind me a little of a guy who played in the majors in the 70's and 80's who came up with the Yankees named Terry Whitfield. Again a nice player but Yanks really need another starter. Ask yourself this, is it worth risking a shot at the title for a player of that level.

He got something like an ERA hovering around 2.5 in the AL this year and has playoff experience, what’s not to like, mate?

The fact that he got hammered during his time as a Mariner, posting FIP's close to 5. He's a flyball pitcher who played in a big park, that is going to another big park. He's been doing this with smoke and mirrors, and I'd hate to be the team that signs him to his next contract.

Pavano had playoff experience, Wright had playoff experience, Irabu & Igawa had playoff experience, so I wouldn't put too much stock into that.

Just because a player has a good record at AAA, that doesn't necessarily mean he's ready for the majors at this moment.

Ian Kennedy, anyone? Fernando Martinez?

AJack is 22, which makes him young for AAA, and it makes his success at that level all the more impressive. Consequently, it's hardly unreasonable that he is viewed as not quite being ready for MLB. To trade him for Washburn would have been nuts.

Fair questions there Joseph. I'm not sure of the answer. But, those are good questions.

I wasn't crazy about the idea of getting Washburn, certainly he would be a vast improvement over what we have in the 5 hole but that's not saying much.

I don't like Cashman in the GM position at all. I don't think he evaluates talent very well and the Yankees vast resources help cover this fact up.

Austin Jackson may turn out to be one very overrated prospect and the Yankees should keep that in mind if they get a chance to do something to help themselves in the pitching department. He looks like a nice young player but that's it. Nice. He strikes out alot, he doesn't have much power and he will be 23 years old before the start of next season and he may not even be ready then. If he is that good can you tell me why when Gardner went down he wasn't called up.
