Did you know, via Anthony McCarron, that: Tonight’s game is the first time the Yanks have led the division when playing the Red Sox this late in the season since 2006? Wow. Been a long time…

Com’on Yanks, if anything, how ’bout winning one tonight? At the least, do it for these guys (and gals)…

Honestly, there’s really no excuses anymore. We’re healthy, we’re at home, we’re playing good ball, our four best arms are throwing and our depth and roster flexibility is better than it’s been all year. It’s time to finally beat these guys.

If we don’t, and can’t, than there’s absolutely no excuse.

It’s absolutely time to not just to get the monkey off our back, but to beat that monkey to death and bury him.

      Agreed, all monkeys must die.

i still wouldn’t be surprised if Smoltz remembers who he is tonight

      @ Corey:
      Lefty BAA: almost .400.
      Lefty SLG: around .600

      OPS allowed, something like 1.2

Its more likely Smoltz goes on the DL after the game with a sprained neck, from jerking his head to his left too quickly and too often, watching the ball fly out of the yard.

      @ OnceIWasAYankeeFan:
still, its only a handful of starts and 30 some-odd innings.

There is not such thing as a must-win game in August.

The Yankees MUST win tonight. If they don’t the season’s over.

Well, the season’s not really over, but I’ll be at the game tonight, so they MUST win for that reason.

      @ Evan3457:

I feel the exact same way. I had to give my tickets away for the last three games of the series b/c I’ll be out of town. Tonight is the only game I’ll be at and I NEED to to see the Yanks beat the Sox.

I guess Steve is extra worried now – Kotchman gets his first start, (and Youk is in LF because he’s a better option than Nick Green with Bay out but not yet disabled).

Maybe they put Youk in left field to distract the Yankee lefties, make them want to hit it inside out to him rather than hack for the short fence.

Can it get any worse, and does anyone really think the Red Sox will hang around in this race for long? There was a report that 22 year old Mr. Reddick, who made a nice debut straight from AA against the Orioles then was sent down in the wake of Tuesday’s bullpen destroying game, was on his way back.

Was it as protection for Bay if he has to be DL’d?
NO – its cause Baldelli has been disabled!

So, Bay is the walking wounded, one bad step from a DL stint, same with Drew though its possible he’ll get through his groin issue, and its Baldelli who gets disabled.

Its looking like 2006 even more. Boston Massacre III – Catch It!

My 2c: Yanks have 2 ‘needs’ this weekend:

1- win tonight (to clear the Yanks heads)
2- then win one more of the last 3

Let’s not jinx ourselves before they actually play the games. Humble pie can taste quite awful.
