He also has a hard time with LHB (.819) OPS, so that may be part of the reason why he has worked and will be working out the pen for the time being.

The Yanks already gave him one, by losing the 03 Series. Honestly, that is the loss that bugs me the most, because there was no excuse for it.

Randomness of a short series. Even with the Gonzalez cheapie, I wouldn't have thought that David Wells back would act up preventing him from pitching further in game 5. I think that hurt more than the Weaver game.

I honestly thought the Yanks should have offered Pavano an incentive laden contract. I would have offered around $1 mil up front, and start and innings based performance bonus's to get it up to around $5 mil. I would take him over Mitre any day, and as this season has proved again, you can never have enough pitching depth.

The team and front office dislike and have no respect for this guy. They won't waste a millisecond thinking about it.

But sometimes stats aren’t the only thing you have to consider when you’re talking about RE-acquiring a familiar face. If the reports are to be believed, NOBODY liked Pavano when he was on the Yanks. Why bring in someone that everyone hates — fans, media, teammates, coaches? That’s setting him up to fail.
When the Mets brought back Bobby Bonilla in 1999, I thought it was the dumbest thing ever. He was the poster-child for everything that sucked about the Mets in the Al Harazin era. To bring him back was to insult and torment Mets fans that had finally managed to get over those awful years.

Right. Throw the stats out the door on this one. No way he'd be the same pitcher here as he was in Cleveland. Carl'd get booed off the mound and shredded in the press...and no knows it better than Carl himself.

Ponson was bought back, why not Pavano? It isn’t that far fetched an idea.
-------
I reiterate that not all re-acquisitions are the same. Ponson's presence didn't antagonize everyone (fans, teammates, coaches, media) the way Pavano's presence would. It's just better to leave him alone. No one wants to revisit that marriage, him included.
