What in the world are you guys talking about? Cano has a OPS of .841 and has Gold Glove defense at a premium position. Cano is a prima donna? A bad apple? Based on what? Cano is anything but a prima donna. When have you ever heard anything like that!?

Alex Rios meanwhile is a corner outfielder with a .734 OPS.

And Steve, teams didn't claim him because there was no point to it. They know the Yankees won't trade Cano right now. The Yankees obviously wouldn't let them take him for free, and they can trade for him now regardless. Wouldn't you think they would claim Melancon? Robertson? They don't because it has no purpose.

Rios and the Jays? Rios has value and there are teams like the Giants or Mets that would want him and give up decent prospects for him. If Kenny Williams wants to give The Jays something decent, they should go for it. I never understand half of William's moves, but he has a ring to show for it.Otherwise, they can move him in the off season to a "naive" team like the Giants or Mets. From what I understand, Toronto wants to move him...Ricciardi and Sabean were on the verge of a Lincecum for Rios trade a couple of years back.

Keith Law of ESPN who used to work for the Jays has claimed that Rios has value as a trade asset this off season. You don't just dump a player's salary when you can get cheap young players back in return.

Rios is the Jays' Cano or Reyes. He is a prima donna , bad apple AND his baseball intangibles are nonexistent. Some people claim he is overpaid and some underpaid, all I can say is good luck to the team that gets him because contrary to what Paul O' Neill claims he ain't gonna flourish as a great player elsewhere.

Cano? The anti-Pedroia? Robinson Cannot...He's another one like Rios BUT I think Rios is valued more highly by other teams for some reason. They actually think that Rios has more of an upside to break out! My opinion is that both of them of birds of the same feather......overpaid, overrated and lazy.

It's the contract, relative to his perceived value.

He's a good player, but his contract, long-term, is that of an all-star, or near all-star player.

Plus, he probably doesn't project well, athletically speaking, and his contract is for for more years.

Re: Rios

If I were the Jays, I'd just drop him onto the White Sox if a trade can't be worked out, and get on with the rebuilding.
