August 11th vs. The Blue Jays
Damon and Teixeira were the back-to-back big fly heroes on Sunday…and tonight it was Matsui and Posada. (Nice catch, by the way, out there on the ‘Sado homer by the mirror image of Billy Connors.)
What a sweet comeback. I hope those Yankees fans who have tickets for the last home game of this season do something special for Hideki Matsui – in what will probably be his last regular season game as Yankee. He deserves it. In many ways, he’s the Japanese Roy White…if you ask me.
This would have been a bad game to lose…having lost the day before…and losing a game in the standings…and potentially losing more ground as the Red Sox try and spark up their season in Boston.

Good comback win.
They tried to give it away in the 3rd and 4th, but the 9 o’clock lightning provided by Matsui and Posada sent them on their way. Mo struggled a bit, but held on.

At this point, if he’d be willing to accept a one year deal to have the role he has this year (sharing dh, pinch hitting), how do you not bring him back? He’s been amazingly productive for a guy who can barely run.

also, how about david robertson? He’s quietly having a solid year in the back of the pen, and the announcers mentioned this stat: Robertson (at least as of last night) has the highest k/9 rate of any ML reliever. Solid.

I didn’t know that, good for him and in turn, good for us. There’s a chance Aceves will be starting games in place of Mitre while Gaudin fills in for Joba every once-in-a-while, so I guess we’ll see Robertson’s innings increase…as well as appearances in high-leverage situations.
On a side note, anybody quietly impressed with the Jays young pitching? With the Orioles and Jays seemingly headed in the right direction, the AL East can become a real powerhouse in a few years.
More reason for the Yanks to get it done this year – since the O’s are going to be tough in the next 2 to 3 years.

I agree on this. When he is in there, he can still hit. Hes also done pretty good when coming in to pinch hit. As for the Jays and O’s..i’ll believe they’re strong when I see it. I see The Yanks currently building a nice core with a lot of young talent. Unfortunately for Toronto and Balt. they still have to play in the AL East.

In his last 17 games, since 6/23 (when the Yanks took off), Robertson has pitched 17.3 IP with an ERA of 4.67. He’s faced 78 batters in that span and walked 8 of them. And, he’s allowed 33% of his inherited runners to score since 6/23. I like the guy, but, he still can’t be trusted.
