The Cherry On Top Question
So, we’ve seen the 2009 Yankees for close to five months now. What do you think of them so far?
Are they like the 1977, 1978, 1996, 1998, 1999, and 2000 Yankees? Or, are they more like the 1980, 1995, 1997, 2002, 2004, 2005, 2006 and 2007 Yankees?
Or, is it too early to tell? If true, and if the 2009 Yankees do end up like the 1980, 1995, 1997, 2002, 2004, 2005, 2006 and 2007 Yankees, when it’s said and done, how would you feel about that?
Considering how well they’ve played so far this season, is it now a “must” for the Yankees to make the World Series this year to validate what they’ve done this year?

No, because they havn’t proven they can beat the White Sox, Red Sox and Angels yet. Still 7-15 against them,
And don’t get me started on the Phillies.
Too early to tell…this time in 2004, we looked dead set for a World series and look what happened.
The playoffs are a different animal. judge the team then.
Steve — I’m curious…why do you leave out the possibilities of 1981, 2001 and 2003? Are those neither failures nor successes?

Well, those series losses hurt:

But, I would say they were both failures and successes – and not “neither failures nor successes”…yikes on the grammar…
Winning the pennant is something…even if you didn’t win the World Series..
I dunno…maybe this is just me?

Agreed. They might have to face said teams in the plyoffs so that’s a bad sign.
@Steve and Jeb , for me as a kid 81 was so devastating. It was sorta like a prelude to what happened in 2004. 2001 was where the great Mariano slipped ,tripped and fell so despite his canonization by certain Yank fans and Kay, he was quite human there. @03 was glorious because of the way they beat the Red Sox, but that loss to the Marlins was a letdown, so that was a wash.
