That’s laughable. Over on Baseball Prospectus’s website, I sorted the VORP for shortstops:

1. Hanley Ramirez, 71.9
2. Derek Jeter, 56.1
3. Jason Bartlett, 55.5
4. Troy Tulowitzki, 41.4
5.Marco Scutaro, 40.5
…
17. Jimmy Rollins, 11.2

Jimmy Rollins is a nice guy, a gamer, and a professional that I love rooting for. But there is no way he’s having a more productive season than Jeter. No way.

JTLYK: The “Jeter Bashers” are out in full force. Over on MLBTV they were pontificating on how Jimmie Rollins was having a more productive year than Jeter despite hitting 90 points lower. “Batting average is very overrated” (strange how no one ever said that around Tony Gwynn). They were also touting Joe Mauer for AL MVP.

I voted for Swisher, just because I can’t decide between Derek and Tex.

And also to recognize him for his work on the road, working against the general roster dropoff when they leave the Stadium (check out the home/road splits on Tex, by the way; he’s been medicore on the road this year).

And also to annoy Steve. A bit. Just a bit.

I have to go with Teixeira. I think Jeter is a very close no. 2. Teixeira has just transformed the lineup this season. Jeter rules though.
