    ...a frog?

Not bird, nor plane, nor even frog, it's just a little 'ole baseball blog!

A win tonight and the Yanks can eliminate the O’s from the AL East race. Fun!

Hopefully the Rays and Rangers win tonight to put pressure on Boston.

Yanks are 83-48 with 31 games left. We can play .500 ball and win 98 games the rest of the way. Anybody else feel like a 100 win season is on the horizon?

Seriously, if somebody told me that we had a chance to win 100 games in a division with the young and amazing Rays and the UNBEATABLE PITCHING DEPTH AND GRIT! of the BLUE COLLAR, UNDERDOG! Red Sox, i’d be very pleased. Keep up the good work Yanks.

Don’t forget how hot the Blue Jays started out…the Yanks potentially winning 100 games in a strong division would be pretty impressive.

The truth is, I’d settle for a 2006 Cardinals experience: 83 wins and a parade up Broadway.

Don’t get me wrong, I hope we win 100…but I’m seriously starved for some playoff magic.

The gents over at RLYW did a nice breakdown of the August splits and something popped out at me. Check out the slash stats for 8 of the 9 Yankee everyday players. Those OPS’s are ridiculous!

      Derek Jeter: .377/.403/.574 (.977)
      Johnny Damon: .327/.371/.622 (.993)
      Mark Teixeira: .294/.391/.523 (.914)
      Alex Rodriguez: .315/.442/.500 (.942)
      Hideki Matsui: .281/.333/.584 (.917)
      Nick Swisher: .277/.378/.500 (.878)
      Jorge Posada: .280/.345/.533 (.878)
      Robinson Cano: .347 .358 .585 (.943)
      Melky Cabrera: .223 .264 .350 (.614) <—–YUCK!

That’s what it’s all about in the end…..number 27 at this point. Even if they were the Wild Card, it still would give them a chance to win it all. Let’s hope that all this regular season dominance doesn’t dissipate in the first round yet again……

I’m with you. A Yankees/Red Sox ACLS is looming which will bring up all sorts of bad memories. Should it occur, the media will be reminding us of 2004 at every opportunity.
