September 4th @ The Blue Jays
Oh, well, I guess we can add Roy Halladay to the list of Daniel Cabrera, Mike Maroth, Billy Traber, Bartolo Colon, Pedro Martinez, Steve Ontiveros, Dave Stieb, Tom Candiotti, Moose Haas, La Marr Hoyt, Nolan Ryan, Skip Lockwood, Joe Niekro, Luis Tiant, Ray Culp, Jim Palmer, Billy Rohr and Blue Moon Odom…as guys who have one-hit the Yankees in my lifetime. (Ryan did it twice, for what it’s worth.)
Thank goodness for Ramiro Pena.
So, in his last 5 starts, including this game, Joba Chamberlain has thrown 21 IP and allowed 19 ER. And, the opposing team has a BA/OBA/SLG line of .337/.408/.457 against him in 103 PA. If he keeps this up, you know what? I’d leave him off the post-season roster – and go with a three-man starting rotation in October.

#62 sucks. No other way to put it right now. He has no idea how to pitch in the big leagues as a starter. His pitch selection and location is predictable, he doesn’t trust his fastball and he’s got no composure on the mound. The Yanks can’t afford to do this right now but I think he needs a trip to Scranton. If the Yanks were 20 games ahead or 20 games behind, I’d send him down to AAA to clear his head and get his shit together.
Oh, but Girardi Joba was “decent” and “”I thought he was aggressive with his fastball and he did the things we wanted, but unfortunately we didn’t score any runs.”
And Joba’s not worried, “It’s just a stretch that everybody goes through; look at Doc,”
This is the same old, same old story after every game. Girardi and Joba saying all is well. Please.

Except that after Doc went through that stretch, the Jays famously sent him back down to Single-A to rebuild him. If #62 wants to live in denial, that’s his choice but he better not do it on my time.
That fat f**k needs a gastric bypass and a healthy dose of reality.
Blame the Yankees. They gave him a “superstar’s head” by treating him like a “superstar” before he proved over the course of a full season that he was a “superstar.”
I disagree Steve, Jeter has been the anointed one since he was drafted, and he has always worked hard at the game and handled himself with class. Blame Joba, not the Yankees. Hughes doesn’t act like this.
That said, it does sound like he needs a swift kick in the ass- somewhere, from someone.
@ JeremyM: Fair point.
Most of the ego and denial is Joba’s fault, but Girardi isn’t helping w/ “he pitched decent” stuff. Plus, Girardi and Eiland allowed Joba to spend 1/2 the game shaking off Jorge. Such arogance for a rookie pitcher who’s stinking up the joint should have been stopped before it got started.

There is no “Scranton” right now. Playoffs, that’s it.
Joba will be on the postseason roster, and it’s very unlikely he won’t be the #4.
