2005-2013 In Perpetuity by WasWatching.com

Just started the Torre book (little late I know). The never die attitude and ability to win close games of the ’96 team is looking very familiar. So is the bullpens of the then and now. Torre remarks how he was able to shorten games to 6 innings with MO for 2 and Wetteland for 1. Sounds alot like Hughes and MO this year to me.

You know what? I think this team does feel a bit like that team. The 1998 comparisons keep on sprouting up because of how much of a run this team hs been on this year but the truth is that ’98 is one for the ages and can’t be touched by anyone.
There is definitely something scrappy about this team that I like…and I say that with the realization that this team is, in truth, not really “scrappy” since they have A-Rod, Jeter, Teixeira, Sabathia, Burnett, Rivera, Posada, Damon, Matsui, and Pettitte, all of whom are well-paid All-Stars.
Nope, for me, the 2009 Yanks mirror the 2002 Yanks. I’ll try and do an entry on that soon.
Why you gotta ruin the moment Steve?

Blech…
You hate Swisher so much that you’re comparing him to Mondesi?!!

This isn’t such a bad deal. 2002 Yanks were 103-58 with a +200 RD and a team ERA under 4.00 at 3.89.
That was a pretty talented team, just ran into a hotter opponent in the Angels that steamrolled them in the ALDS.
Yet, when we look back at those 2002 Yanks, all we remember is the tank job they did in the ALDS…

Definitely, one Yankee team had to snap the four year streak of World Series appearances. Whether this team won 103 games or 83 games, they’d still be remembered as the team that tanked…playoffs or not.
