Tex: Doesn’t Matter Who Yanks Face In October, “We’re Going To Win” In Case Red Light’s Blog Was Not Enough…
Sep 14

Seeing how well Pedro Martinez has thrown for the Phillies, this season, in his 7 starts with them since joining the team, and how badly Joba Chamberlain and A.J. Burnett have been pitching lately, should the Yankees have gone out and picked up Martinez, when they had the chance, as a free agent this summer?

Me? I was happy with the Yanks passed on ol’ Petey. And, to be candid, the thought of seeing him in a Yankees uniform somewhat turns my stomach. But, when your options after Joba and A.J. are Sergio Mitre and Chad Gaudin…well…pour me a Pepto for Pedro…and maybe I’ll learn to survive…

That’s today’s wild thought. What are your thoughts on this?

Of course the Yanks shouldn’t have picked up Pedro. He’s doing this in the NL. You really think the results would be the same in the AL East?

#62 and Burnett have sucked recently but Pedro wouldn’t have fared better.

Not only is he doing it in the NL, every team he’s faced has been pretty lousy on offense. (Of the six teams he’s faced, Washington has scored the most runs, ranking 21st in baseball). I’m pretty sure his results would be much different in the AL East.

i hate pedro martinez. I’d, personally, rather lose without him than win with him.

not to mention, i think any 1 of us could navigate through the Met lineup and toss 8 scoreless innings, they are atrocious.

I didn’t wish for Pedro in pinstripes even back when he was still Pedro.

But before you even got to that name I was thinking wait a minute what do you mean when my options after Joba and AJ are Mitre and Gaudin — I’m already in a quandary when my post-season options after CC and Andy are AJ and Joba.

What was that old saying about praying for rain?

  6. Raf Says:

I would’ve taken a flyer on Pedro, but that’s my policy on just about every warm body. The Yanks did their due diligence, and they passed. Their word is good enough for me.

    Hindsight is always 20/20
