In Between The Rings
The first time the Yankees won a World Series ring, in my lifetime, was 1977. And, that was New York’s first ring since 1962 – meaning there were 14 years in between ring seasons.
The Yankees won another ring in 1978. But, they didn’t win their next ring until 1996 – meaning there were 17 seasons between ring seasons for them.
We know the last time the Yankees won a World Series ring was 2000. And, that was 9 years ago – including this season. So, what if we have to wait until 2015 or 2018 for the next Yankees ring?
You can’t say that’s not possible – as we had to wait for 1977 after 1962, and, we had to wait for 1996 after 1978.
Say, isn’t A-Rod’s contract up in 2017…? Maybe that 2018 date isn’t so crazy after all?

What the hell was hank steinbrenner thinking?
Say, isn’t A-Rod’s contract up in 2017…? Maybe that 2018 date isn’t so crazy after all?

I know this is a joke, kind of, but can we put this blaming A-Rod for postseason failures to bed? Here’s what we should really be blaming it on:
2004 ALCS: Pitchers ERA was 4.68, Jeter’s BA was .200
2005 ALDS: Pitcher’s ERA was 4.52, Matsui and Posada both hit sub .250
2006 ALDS: Pitcher’s ERA was 4.41, Sheffield, Giambi, Matsui, Damon, Cano and Melky all are atrocious with the bats
2007 ALDS: Pitcher’;s ERA: 4.5, Melky, Jeter, Posada and Matsui all sub .200
Listen, I know it’s popular to bash A-Rod for not winning us rings. There’s an entire legion of idiotic retards who actually believe he is the only reason for the Yankees not winning every year, and that he’s the sole contributor to the decay of the dynasty Yankees. Can we on this blog not be a part of that legion, and not encourage that nonsense to continue?
Aren’t we above that? Can’t we read simple statistics and see that if Yankee pitchers pitch to a close-to 5.00 ERA and nobody hits, we won’t win…no matter how many home runs A-Rod hits?
Please people, please.
Steve you’re one of those Arod world Series conspiracy theorists? You think they’ll never win one while he’s on the team? Look, nothing has happened so far so your point has some merit! Look I’m not the biggest aroid fan, BUT he’s a scapegoat for other people’s mistakes: Brianless Cash Man, Clueless St Joe Torre and yes, San Mariano Rivera.
Mariano screwed up in 2004 plain and simple. Yes, the great San mariano blew that 4th game at Fenway. Boston had his number in the ALCS and MO was the goat. Afrod? He did well up until game 3 and then stunk from then on in….
Steve, we are very close in age and I think back to 77,78 sometimes. I remember the pain of 81, which for me was worse than 2004. and yes, there was that long wait of seeing the Yanks not even make the playoffs, either until 95. That wait might happen and I’m prepared since I’ve been through it before and know what it’s like.
@Crank, Afraud isn’t the sole reason (I don’t even see him as a reason BTW) for the collapse of the Yankee Dynasty. For all his warts, his work ethic and his production have been enormous. Yes, he has not been King Clutch and the fans have rightfully got on him for that. In addition, he hasn’t had that shining, defining moment as a Yankee in a championship season yet. Once that happens a lot of the Nayrod crowd will pipe down. Until then, they will bring up the antics, the unclutchness and his diminished post season play since 2004.
@ YankCrank:
Thank you.
