      Read it yesterday. Verducci is great on the great Mariano Rivera.

      It’s also interesting to see who he talked to and who he didn’t. Other than Mo his biggest source seems to have been Posada, which would seem appropriate given that not only are they battery-mates but they’ve been friends as well as team-mates since the minors. Otherwise it was managers, coaches, and opponents — not much from other current Yankees. Given they’d have been awfully predictable quotes and I could see him thinking the story would be fresher and more interesting this way, but still a slight surprise. Most reporters just want to get in as many famous names as possible.

      The picture of the trio of Posada, Rivera and Jeter walking off the field smiling, with their arms around each other, is priceless, as is the caption (I know reporters don’t write captions, but still): We Three Kings.

      I’m really surprised to hear that his four-seam grip produced a cutter-like effect. How is that possible? You’d have to really be breaking your wrist or slinging it to get a four-seamer to break in on lefties. Is that to say that when Mo throws his cutter now, 12 years later, that he’s still gripping it like a four-seamer and not a two-seamer with pressure on the middle finger over the right seam?
