The Yankees’ wives and girlfriends have been banned from trashing Kate Hudson after Page Six revealed there was coldness between her and Derek Jeter’s squeeze, Minka Kelly. We told how low-key Kelly disapproved of Hudson’s antics including cheering wildly from the front row and smooching A-Rod all over town. A source said, “The Yankees told the girls to be careful who they spoke to about Kate. They are concerned about the ramifications for the players.”

I’m really starting to get a Memo Paris vibe from Ms. Hudson…

Where do you get that vibe? Kate Hudson is not Memo Paris. If anything, she’s Iris Gaines. She seems very well-liked by the other wives, and A-Rod has been having a great year with her around. From the New York Post:
Movie-star girlfriends, like Derek Jeter’s current squeeze, Minka Kelly, are often cautioned to keep their distance from the long-suffering wives. Kelly watches the games secluded in Jeter’s private box. But Hudson, with her girl-next-door appeal, seems to be wooing the wives like an eager freshman pledging a sorority.
“She’s a great girl,” Amber said. “She’s super cool.”
Laura Posada, who watched A-Rod’s marriage to Cynthia Rodriguez disintegrate among rumors that he was having an affair with Madonna, even gave the Alex-and-Kate relationship her stamp of approval.
“We love her!” Laura cooed. “She doesn’t act like a superstar. She’s on the field, she’s in the family room, she’s really becoming part of the group. They’re happy, and it shows in the way he’s playing. I think it’s great.”
It wasn’t always so chummy among the wives.
“In the past, there has been tension,” Laura said. “The wives have not always gotten along. If you have two wives fighting, it’s going to get back to the guys.”
Cynthia Rodriguez never sat with the other wives, sources said.

FWIW, the whole “Yankees wives” thing turns my stomach. Yes, I know this has been going on since the 1970’s – maybe before that…but, IMHO, players wives and girlfriends should be rarely seen and heard…they don’t hit, run, field or pitch…that add nothing to the team on the field…so, why we even know they’re they’re there is wrong…

I think this has nothing to do with baseball and seems like a bunch of mucraking nonsense. I guess some people need to make up stuff to not like about Alex and anyone he associates with. Seems like a pretty empty and depressing way to go through life.

If you remember the actual plot of the movie, Hobbs’ play deteriorates when Memo becomes his girlfriend. Pop Fisher says she’s bad luck.
As A-Rod hasn’t played this well in the postseason since at least 2004, I’d say the answer to your questions is…

’70s? I think it goes back further than that? Didn’t the Ruth-Gehrig feud start when their wives had a falling out? And that story, I think, explains why (some) people are interested in the wife stuff – because it can have repercussions with the team.

The Yanks should go back to the wife swap days! That is for the old bloody farts like Steve, Evan and Co who remember that oddity.
Arod has been/is/will be a starf%^&r pure and simple. he’s an attention whore. Did Kate handle herself with decorum …no. She’s a media whoretoo. She never met a camera she doesn’t like. Mates, it’s sickening to see her at the game with Jay-Z acting like bozos. I’ll take Minka Kelly any day of the week over Hawn’s Spawn,thank you.
