No Yanks Game Till Friday? No Big Deal…
…we can play our own game until then.
This is a little time-killing game that I came up with back in 2002. (See this and this for more on what was done back at that time.) Here’s how it works…
This is a fictional baseball game. When you leave a comment to this entry, you must:
- – state the inning and score at the moment (based on the previous comment)
- – give the runners on base and the outs (also based on the previous comment)
- – provide what your batter will do
- – and, if it’s the end of the 1/2 inning, give the score and the inning at the close of the inning.
I’ll do the first two batters to give an example.
Play Ball!

Top of the 1st, no score
No one on, no outs
Single to left
Top of the 1st, no score
Runner on first, no outs
Taps back to the pitcher, runner forced at 2B, no throw to 1st, batter reaches
Top 1st, no score
Runner on first, 1 out
Strike him out, throw him out (runner CS)
Bottom of the 1st, No Score
No one on, no outs
Base on balls. Runner on first.
Bottom of the 1st, No Score
Runner on first,no outs
Ground rule double to deep center
Bottom 1st, no score
Runners on 2nd and 3rd, no outs
Squeeze play, one run scores, runner advances from 2nd to 3rd, batter safe at first ( throwing error catcher)
Bottom 1st, Home Team Leading 1-0
Runners on 1st and 3rd, one out
Batter lines a shot that hits the pitching rubber on a fly – it bounces back to the catcher behind HP, also on the fly, and he catches it for an out. He then throws to 3rd to double that runner off base. DP 2-5. End of the inning.
Visitors 0, Home 1, End of 1st Inning.
Steve,
Why is there 1 out? batter is safe at first because of throwing error?
Yikes! Leave it to me to screw up the game. Miss that, sorry – -
OK, change mine to:
Bottom 1st, Home Team Leading 1-0
Runners on 1st and 3rd, no outs
Batter lines a shot that hits the pitching rubber on a fly – it bounces back to the catcher behind HP, also on the fly, and he catches it for an out. He then throws to 3rd to double that runner off base. DP 2-5.
Runner on first, two outs.
