There’s only been two post-season games ever, in the history of the game, where a team has used 8+ pitchers in a contest that was 13-innings or less and where their team won:
Game 2 of the 2009 ALDS between the Yankees and Twins, and,
Game 2 of the 2009 ALCS between the Yankees and Angels.
There have been seven post-season games in baseball history where a team used 8+ pitchers in a game of 13 innings or less where their team lost.

He kinda bugs me with the way he burns through the bullpen. I still think Joba can go longer than 1/3 and Phil longer than 2/3. It almost backfired on him last night.
Basically my thought on this matter is that the more you cycle through your relievers, hte better chance you have of finding the one that doesn’t have his stuff that day.

FWIW, I thought the same thing…wondering if he was going to run out of pitchers before the Yankees could break the tie.

This is a valid point. But so is the thinking that, in the post-season, you use who you must, when you must, to kill off rallies as they happen, and let the 15th inning take care of itself.
Joba could’ve gone longer, but that would’ve messed with Hughes’ head. Aceves could’ve gone longer, but only at the cost of allowing Morales to bat left-handed in Yankee Stadium in the 12th inning of a tied game in the ALCS.
As with Game 2 of the ALDS, the game was won at the point where we were going to see Gaudin pitching for the next 6 innings.
