Note To Yanks: Get It Done Tonight & Stay Out Of The Rain On Saturday
The NYC weather forecast for Saturday, October 24th, calls for temperatures around 62° F – but with rain, most of the day, including when Game 6 of the 2009 ALCS (if necessary) is scheduled.
So, rather than being in a spot where they have to mess with whatever bad weather can bring for Game 6 – albeit rain-delays impacting starting pitchers or a cancelation causing the game to be moved to Sunday and allowing the Angels to have more pitchers available, etc. – the Yankees should wrap up the ALCS with a win tonight…and make the weather forecast for Saturday a moot item.
I wonder if General Joe and crew are thinking about this…and will play the game tonight more like a must-win situation than a “we have two games after this one, if needed” situation? If you were the Yankees, knowing the forecast for Saturday, how would you play it tonight?

If the Yanks were to get hung up thinking about the forecast and how it would impact the next possible game they would be creating a recipe for disaster. I honestly buy into the “one game at a time” mentality and think it contributes to their focus.
The Yanks should be focused on winning tonight, regardless of what the weather forecast is for Saturday. They should want to win tonight because they should want to win every night and shouldn’t require any additional motivation.
I assume that if it’s a close game, Girardi will manage with every intention of clinching which — depending on what you thought of the job he did on Monday night — could either be a blessing or a curse.
That’s why I hope the lineup simply takes the game out of Girardi’s hands tonight. Go out there and mash and everything will fall into place.
Yup. Focus on what you have to do today and let tomorrow worry about itself.
Just focus on today… the media will never get tired of how it is 3-”2″ now n 2004
We play today… we win today

agreed with everyone in the comments about the one game at a time approach. but further, with the off day tomorrow, there is no reason not to manage/play this game like it is game 7. they should probably do that anyway, but the built in off day to regroup should they not come through tonight is just further reason to do so.
Play to win. As if you were down 3-1, instead of ahead 3-1.
If not, your wasting everybody’s time, including your own.
