Saw the Pilot for Modern Family. The "cool father" turned me off a lot–seemed too much like Michael from The Office. I can't stand that type of character.

I have heard good things. Speaking of shows like "Arrested Development", have you ever seen the show "Better off Ted" Steve? That one reminds me of Arrested Development quite a bit (even has the sister in it, in a similar role).
