Pettitte did injure his arm swinging in 2004, so maybe he would’ve been fine? Eh, who knows, but Andy was nails in 2003, he was just bested by Beckett- it happens.

I swear, I am just absolutely f**king miserable about tonight’s game. I’ve never been sadder about a baseball game in my life. I am looking forward to my 7:30 am visit to the dentist on Monday more than I am looking forward to tonight’s game…

Pettitte was tipping his pitches in the 2001 game, or so say the D’backs.

So basically that’s one bad game and one good one. I’d be more worried about the fact the Angels hit him well.

Steve, I think the ’04 debacle was due to more than one player, though a starting pitcher with cojones certainly would have helped. Too many superstars wanting nothing more than big contracts and gutless pitchers. And yes, give some credit to the other guys who clearly wanted it more.

PS – I know that Pettitte’s season in 2004 ended early due to elbow surgery…but, maybe, just maybe, if he was in NY that season he could have avoided that injury. But, maybe that’s all just wishful thinking…

The ’03 game was the Beckett game. Andy gave up 1 ER in 7 innings. Can’t fault Pettitte for that one.

I feel like the ‘old guard’ that suffered through 2004 are on a silent mission this year though they will never, ever publicly say so. No surprise then that Jeter, Posada and yes, Andy, are playing so well right now.
