2009 will mark the 8th time the Yanks have taken on the defending World Champions in the World Series. Their record in the previous 7 trials is 5-2 with the two losses coming in 1922 and 1976—interestingly enough, in both of those series losses the Yanks failed to win a single game, going a collective 0-8-1. Most recently the Yankees faced off against the Atlanta Braves in 1996 with what is known in the medical community as “the desired result.”

The Phillies for their part are trying to become just the 4th NL team—and only the second in the last 86 years—to win back-to-back World Championships, thus establishing themselves as on of the most memorable teams in Senior Circuit history. And their status would be enhanced all the more by besting the New York Yankees in doing so.

      Should be interesting.

@ Tresh Fan: Excellent stuff, as always!

So, anyone else wondering if the rain will mess with this World Series like it did last year?

A former Met has screwed up playing for the opponent when playing us each series…

      Gomez – Twins

Kazmir – Angels (twice to boot)

so here’s hoping the gift that keeps on giving … the Mets and their errors… or stinkers…

Pedro starts for Phils in game 2…. we shud never hate the Mets :-)

      @ Steve Lombardi:

It will rain.. and if it does we stand to lose more… i also wouldnt mind it raining after game 4… that may just be the key for our starters getting that extra rest…

Quick qn: if Game 5 gets rained out and the second off day is game 5.. does game 6 get pushed… i hope it does…:-)

      @ Corey:

He’s also forgetting that Kevin Cash isn’t in the starting lineup this time around.

Imagine if we still had Veras and Tomko in our ‘pen? We can complain all we want, but this pen is much improved.

Good for him. He should feel that confident. He’s on the defending champs. They have every reason to feel that way, having pounded the Rays in 5 last season. They’re good, proud, tough, and battle tested.

Just like the Patriots before Super Bowl 42.

I hope all the Phillies are that confident. That way, if there’s a shock, say, Brad Lidge blows a game in the 9th, it’ll shake them all the more.

Why is there an east coast bias.. well check out how many AL East teams made the WS this decade

      2000,2001,2003,2004,2007,2008,2009

And the Phils have made it from NL 2 years in a row… the east coast teams are on a roll… you can write up the winner of AL east to the WS… theres really only one team (angels) standing in their way… ( i know a couple of them were wild cards)…
