That no posting for a while thing sure did last a long time, Steve.
So when I came into work today, everyone was surprised to see me. They all assumed that I would skip out on work to go see the parade. But, I just can’t get into parades…is it just me? I feel like I should have interest in it, being a huge Yankees fan, but I just can’t get into it.
Yes, be happy you would even be able to go! I’m stuck in school in Boston! Wish i were in NYC. If anyone does go I’d love to hear some stories later about how it was.
@ Corey:
I’m not big on parades either..but this is one I could get behind. I think this one is more special a la ’96, but could see getting less excited about the ones in ’99 and ’00. Note..I said “less excited”, lol. I would still looooove to be down there mingling with all the fans.
@ Corey:
LOL – don’t worry – this is the last WaterCooler – and then the new format begins…
I worked downtown, across from the WTC in 1996. Closest I’ve been to going to one of the parades. FWIW, I’ve heard that you better camp out at 6 am – or else you’re not going to get close enough to see anything good.
Plus, if you’re a girl, the crowd is a great place to get felt up by strangers. And, for anyone, it’s a great place to get your pocket picked.
Got a tweet from Swish from the parade. Hes having a ball!
@ Steve Lombardi:
I started working at the World Trade Center in August of 2000 so I was there for the parade after the 2000 World Series. It was a lot of fun, but you’re right, I couldn’t see a whole lot from where I was standing on the sidewalk. I ended up going back up to my office and watching the parade from the 58th floor of the WTC with binoculars.
@ clintfsu813:
I got that same Tweet!
Aww, too bad I missed Jay-Z’s performance (not).
Glad to see they gave Wang a key. He deserves it.
parade report from my buddy Bill:
Went outside this AM and watched the parade go by….
· The women standing behind me knew less about the Yankees than I know about college football.
· I think I can name 1 NCAA player.
· It is amazing how much crap is thrown out the windows. I really think some people just empty their office.
· I understand how A-Rod can get any and every female, but Brett Gardner did surprise me.
· Matsui was in the first float.
· A-Rod and Jay-Z rode together.
· Burnett is very very tall.
· Girardi was extremely excited.
· Jeter was with Jorge.
· Last float – Mariano.
BTW, I found this last night –
google “yankees parade bank of new york girls” and see what you get….

Just tried it, didn’t see anything out of the ordinary…
Went to enough parades of various kinds when my kids were young to last me a lifetime (lost one momentarily at a Macy’s Day parade, that was a heartstopper).
The view is always better on TV, also the food and bathroom access, not to mention the company. So now I clear the agenda, sit back with all the comforts (and goodies), and watch every step of the way.
Love it. The only truly fitting end to the season. Doesn’t matter if they’re all basically alike. Like Jeter, I don’t get tired of this…

Hey, just want to sneak in some house-cleaning here. As mentioned, this will be the last Water Cooler.
The days of spending 90 hours per month making 150 posts a month are over for me. Going forward, I am going to aim to keep it closer to 30 hours per month and <50 posts per month.
No more Water Coolers and, most likely, no more daily Game Commentary next year. It will be more features and isolated breaking news things…more like Pinstriped Bible and less like LoHud, if you need examples…
That said, while there will not be Coolers each day, PLEASE, please, please – did I say please? – feel FREE to use whatever post is the most recent one on the site and leave comments there on the Yankees, much like you did in the Coolers.
The fact that this blog is a gathering site for a community of Yankees fans is not changing at all.
If you have any questions on this, please let me know. Thanks!
Steve,
I went to the parade yesterday. Glad I got to see it in person, but boy was it crowded! It was crowded on the SI Ferry there, and crowded just walking to B’way. And this was two hours ahead of time. Was fortunate to find a decent spot to see parade, just north of Wall Street.
Thought you’d be interested to hear that there apparently was a near-riot at the Whitehall Terminal after parade. I’m glad I stayed in the city for lunch and missed this mess!

@ Steve Lombardi:
MAJOR, major, major – did I say major? – bummer!
@ MJ:
Why?
@ lisaswan:
thanks for the link – I had not seen that. Very sad

You need to ask why? Because I love the site as it is and rely on it as a major part of my daily life. Change is scary.
This was the fourth parade I have attended and it was the best one for me by far because I didn’t run into that many problems. I got off the 1 train at South Ferry right at 9:30am and was able to get a pretty decent spot on Broadway bet. Morris St. and Exchange Place. If you’re someone who attends a decent amount of concerts where you have to stand up and don’t mind, the parade experience shouldn’t be that much of an annoyance. The only thing that kind of sucked was how spaced out all the floats with players were. There were a lot of Yankee employees riding trucks and tour buses who would fill in those gaps while people chanted “WHO ARE YOU?!?”
In the past I was never able to make it near Broadway, always getting stuck up near City Hall. This was largely due to the fact that I was in high school at the time, didn’t know the city as well as I do now, and was part of a large group of kids just as clueless as me. This time I was with some of those same people and luckily we are all a bit wiser now and were able to actually see the parade. We then “battled” our way up Broadway, which was a little bit of a pain, but wasn’t as bad as I expected and secured a good spot in front of one of the big screens they had setup near City Hall. I don’t know if they showed this on TV, but they rolled a highlight reel of the season that started out with pivotal regular season moments and then proceeded to the “Step 1″ (ALDS), “Step 2″ (ALCS), “Step 3″ (WS) segments. This was nicely done and people were going nuts when some of the biggest post season moments were being replayed. It was a little crazy how many people were getting keys and it would have been nice to hear from a few more players, but in the end it was great to be apart of one last mass gathering of Yankee fans in 2009.
@ MJ:
Give it a try B4 you panic, OK?
