This would be a terrible, terrible trade. Why would a team, trying to get younger and cheaper, flip a promising young arm along with another young arm for a 30-year-old outfielder and a pitching has-been with serious injury risks year to year?

Think of the outrage in Yankee land, if we refused to flip Joba (or Hughes) to the Twins for Santana but instead flipped him to the Royals for, of all pitchers, Gil Meche.

We can get equal value of Dejesus for just money in Cameron, like Corey said. We can also get equal value in Meche for players on the market without giving up arms. I understand news is slow and this is just hypothetical, but this is a humongous no to me.

Still wouldn't do it. The objective is to get younger right? That's what we keep being told anyway. I see it this way, let's say Joba reaches half of his potential. That is still better than Gil Meche.

Also, Can we see what it's like with Joba when he pitches back-to-back full seasons?

In 2007, Joba pitched about 110 innings. In 2008, Joba pitched about 100 innings. Perhaps his conditioning had led his arm to being used to throwing around 100-110 innings a year. Here's his 2009 stats after around 110 innings:

20GS 110.2IP 97K 105H 50 BB 7-2 with a 3.58 ERA

Now that's better, and cheaper, than Gil Meche. After a couple of more starts (that were sub-par, although only 1 was atrocious), they started messing with his innings in season. From that point on, he fashioned this line (omitting his last Relief Appearance):

7GS 25.2IP 18K 35H 11 BB 1-2 with a 7.01 ERA

Atrocious. There's not to like there. But, can we please give him a full, normal season after pitching a decent amount of innings before we trade him for Gil Meche? If he can even JUST repeat the first 20 starts over a full season, he's worth it. And I think we can all agree that he shows potential to be a lot better than that.

Now you might say, hey we get an outfielder in that trade too. Big deal. I'd rather sign Cameron (Whom I despise) to a 1 year deal then get DeJesus in this deal. Cameron would play just as good, if not better defense, while hitting just as well (he will K a bit more, but there's gotta be a trade-off somewhere if we're keeping the cheaper options).

To add, I wouldn't trade Joba to the Jays for Doc. He's going to be very good once he gets a little more seasoning, you watch.

Why would you trade Joba Chamerlain for Gil Meche? That, to me, is beyond ridiculous. I feel that even MJ would think this is undercutting Joba's value.
