Mike Vaccaro, today, wonders if the length of Derek Jeter’s contract-to-be scared away Adeinis Hechavarria from signing with the Yankees…amd if it means other young free agent shortstop prospects will avoid the Yankees as well.

It’s an interesting question. But, I don’t think it only applies to shortstops. The Yankees future at third and first base is pretty much locked up for a while too. And, for what it’s worth, between Robinson Cano and all the second base prospects in the Yankees system, it’s going to be a hard road for a free agent youngster, now, looking to play second base in the Bronx in the immediate future.

Now, the outfield, well, that’s a horse of a different color…there’s lots of opportunity to break in there.

I don’t think that’s the case. If the organization wants to find space for a player they will. Soriano moved off SS. Pat Kelly broke in elsewhere. Chamberlain was a starter in the minors.

If Adeinis Hechavarria wanted to make it to the majors quickly, I can think of better options than the Blue Jays

Just curious but which 2B prospects would those be? The Yanks MiLB has pitching and catching but not much else that I can see in the way of prospects, certainly not in the middle infield positions. David Adams is a utility man and he’s probably our best 2B down there.

      @ MJ Recanati:
I gotta say, even though he’s more of a utility candidate, I like me some Kevin Russo.

Both are utility guys. In my mind that means they’re not really prospects as much as they’re high-end organizational guys.

In no order: Kevin Russo, David Adams, Corban Joseph, Jimmy Paredes, Eduardo Nunez, Reegie Corona, Justin Snyder, Damon Sublett, Addison Maruszak and Garrison Lassiter.

Granted, none of them may be future HOFers. But, maybe some of them will develop to be .270 hitters with some pop who COULD play 2B someday in the bigs.

I think Kevin Russo could play 2B for an NL team. He seems to know how to handle the bat, and could be a good situational hitter.

Blech. That’s a big bag of poop if you ask me. Those that can hit can’t field and those that can field can’t hit. And those that can do both, can’t do it well enough to play every day in the majors.

NO! The Blue Jays were offering top money AND he would be assured a starting SS position in the near future. They are not moving the man,the myth, the legend ,the Golden Boy (Jeter) for anyone at this point.Arod the best player in baseball HAD to move to 3rd because Jeter owns that position. So AH made a wise decision in the end. clintfsu813 wrote:

Yeah, they are rebuilding right now BUT the kid will probably be the starting SS next year under the tutelage of Johnny Mac, one of the best defensive SSs in the AL if not all of baseball. And I will say this much about Anthopoulos, I am impressed with this kid. So Far he’s been the anti-JP Retardi(who is so full of shit his eyes are brown BUT he wears blue contacts1?) and that’s an auspicious start for him so far!

There have been other iconic players that have changed positions, there have been other players that have moved, there have been players that have been forced to play elsewhere on the diamond.

My overall point was that if an organization decides that they want to get a player in the lineup, they will even if it means playing him out of position.

Chill mate that was for all the neophytes who know Bill Murray from Zombieland!HAHAHA Yes, I’m not a fan of Sandler,Little Nicky was beyond stupid. Although, I had heard him on Miked Up and The Kay show and he seems cooler in real life. He’s also a Yankee fan, strange for a New Englander whose parents are from Brooklyn even still!

Raf, the problem is that Golden Boy Jeter AKA St Derek is the glaring exception to this rule. Add to the fact that Jeter’s defense improved this year, no one is replacing Jeter at SS barring a catastrophic injury or Jeter’s retirement at this point. Once again, there are other iconic players that have switched positions BUT it is painfully obvious that the Yanks won’t do that to Jeter. He represents the brand, the championships and Yankee pride. In addition, he’s given absolutely no indication of taking one for the team and moving for anyone. It didn’t happen when Aroid/Afraud/ARuth , who was the superior SS showed up and it won’t happen if Ramiro “Baby Yankee SS” Pena is busting it up either!
