    Neil Paine ran the numbers.

    Also, in this series, Neil tips us off on another great Yankees-related resource to bookmark.

      IF/OF Ramiro Peña 0.281 0.341 0.430
      =========
      I highly doubt these.

      whats so crazy about those numbers? cervelli hit .298 last year and pena hit .287. cervelli is hitting well so far this spring and with another year under their belts theres a decent chance theyll hit those numbers. cervelli is going to get about the same ABs and games as he did last year and pena will get quite a few ABs and games since hes going to play every IF position so every time they give ARod or Jete or Robbie a day off.

      @ Corey Italiano:
      I agree, way too optimistic.

      Which brings me to what I was going to say before I saw your comment.

      Gardner’s projected line is .265/.337/.383 (wOBA .325). Add that to the horrendous projections for the bench and I seriously have to wonder how this offense will score enough runs to avoid 2010 looking a lot like 2008. Gardner and the bench are all crap players and with the very real possibility that the bench has to play a lot because of Nick Johnson’s inevitable 50 game vacation…yuck. This team looks ripe for a big letdown.

      The batting averages may be right, but the OBP & SLG are off.
