Greatest/Favorite Yankees Tournament
Last week, I suggested having a Greatest/Favorite Yankees Tournament. And, thanks to the Complete Baseball Encyclopedia, I believe that I’ve worked up some brackets that will make this interesting. Here they are, below – click on the image to enlarge it:
The tournament will start in about a week – and each match-up will be determined by a poll posted here. Pick who you think is best. Pick your favorite. Use whatever scale you want to use – but, make a vote…and let’s have some fun with this one.
I’ve also created a downloadable spreadsheet that you may find helpful with this one – as it allows you to make your picks on a “Guide” and see how they look, and determine your vote, when the next poll/round is available.
Any questions? Please share them now before we start the polling process.

I got Babe, Jeter, Berra, and Joe D in my Final Four.
Thinking it over, I’m probably going to have to start this earlier than 3/29 to get all those early games in…
Looks like my boy gets eliminated in the first round. Gee, Thanks.
I had Babe, Mickey, Joe D and Clemens in my Fave Four. Babe beat the Mick in my final.
Yes, to the haters, you read that correctly: Roger Clemens. He’s my favorite baseball player of all time, and that includes the decade-plus he spent as a member of the Boston Red Sox.
Sounds fun..I’m a little disappointed that my all time fave Deion Sanders didnt make the cut tho
@ MJ Recanati:
I didnt have Roger getting out of the first round. I’m only evaluating him as a Yankee, and just didnt feel he contributed more than Keller
Babe beat Mick in mine too
OK, I’m going to need some help with these polls. The poll plugin that I have now only allows one poll to be run at a time. And, that’s going to be a nightmare with the first round.
I could use SurveyMonkey – but, then, people will only be able to vote and not see the interim results. And, if I use something like PollPub, then the poll will be out there for any Yahoo who comes across it and that could lead to someone messing with the ballot process.
Anyone know of any good, reliable, free onlone poll services that might work for this project?
@ Steve Lombardi:
I’d offer to write up a quick one and host it on my server, but I don’t really have the time since I’m going to Tampa tomorrow and won’t be back till next week.
No sweat – thanks for offering. I’ll figure something out.
@ Steve Lombardi:
FYI, if that’s something that would be of use in the future, I could do it when I get back.
Mantle’s bracket is pretty stacked. how is jeter a 2 seed behind gehrig? i believe he just passed him for the most hits in yankee history right?
@ BOHAN:
Because Gehrig is one of the best righty run-producers of all time.
i don’t know, fritz peterson might have a shot at a big upset
i don’t agree with tino being a 16 seed

based on his career RCAA/PA mark as a Yankees, he almost didn’t make the cut. but, I had to throw him in the pool because he’s a beloved Yankee. But, stat-wise, he’s no higher than a 16 to me.

Gehrig was lefty dude
