Yeah, I know, going 14-12 in your last 26 ain’t terrible. But, when you take out going 5-1 against the Baltimore Orioles, the Yankees record in their other games is 9-11 (during that 26 game span).

It’s been a rough four weeks in Yankeeland.

Yes, there have been some injuries. But, Andy Pettitte only missed one start with his elbow issue. Therefore, the Yankees starting pitching has no excuses. And, Granderson has been out – but he wasn’t doing anything when he was in there either. Ditto Nick Johnson. Ditto Chan Ho Park too. What does that leave? Aceves, Swisher and Posada.

So, does that mean this Yankees team can only play .500 baseball when it’s missing Alfredo Aceves, Jorge Posada and Nick Swisher? Really?

That’s an incomplete diagnosis. VERY incomplete.

Losing Johnson and Granderson drew down on the depth of the team.

Losing Posada and Swisher on top of that means half the original lineup is missing. Now they’ve lost their best bench hitter. Losing Posada means teams will catch up with Cervelli quicker than they might have. Losing Thames means that Winn must play every day. Jeter has been slumping. Cano is just emerging from a slump. Ditto A-Rod.

The front four was pitching light out. That had to come to an end at some point, and probably against teams that can hit. They’re playing 3 of them in a row just now. Aceves’ injury wouldn’t matter so much, if Joba and Mo had done the job Sunday and Tuesday.

Then, the Yanks would be 6-5 in their last 11, and 16-10 in their last 26, and you wouldn’t be starting this thread, would you?

Now, if Joba and Mo are really this bad, then the 4-7 thing is relevant. If not, then it’s not relevant, is it?

That may be the case, but they have a track record of doing something more often than not.

Look – last year we had Cody Ransom starting the season at 3B, a bullpen consisting of Brian Bruney, Edwar Ramirez, and Jose Veras, and this time last year we were down to a journeyman catcher and a AA player hitting .180 behind the plate.

      How’d that turn out??

There’s no guarantee this team will win 98 games, but we’ve seen worse storms weathered before that ended with ticker tape parades, so I’m not worried at this point, and do not think anyone else should be either.
