Roy Oswalt Wants Out Of Houston
Via Chicago Breaking Sports –
The July 31 trading deadline is more than two months away, but one of baseball’s best pitchers has asked to be put on the market.
Houston Astros ace Roy Oswalt, a three-time National League All-Star, has asked owner Drayton McLane Jr. to be traded, a source said Friday.
Oswalt, 32, is in the fourth year of a five-year, $73 million contract that will pay him $15 million in 2010 and $16 million in 2011. His contract includes a $16 million team option for 2012 or $2 million buyout.
Could the Yankees use Roy Oswalt? Would a package of Javier Vazquez, David Robertson, Eduardo Nunez and David Phelps be enough to get the deal done? (Here, I assume, that the Astros would use Vazquez for a while and then flip him, around July, to a National League contender.) Seriously, how many other teams can afford Oswalt? Oh, wait, the Yankees have a “budget” now…never mind.

It would cost the Yanks $2.25 million to make that deal for this season, roughly speaking.
That’s not what stops that trade from happening. What stops that trade from happening is that the Astros aren’t going to trade Oswalt unless they get topnotch young talent for him.
I’d stay away – that NL pitcher to the AL story again.
Look at how Jake Peavy is doing in Chicago or Dontrelle Willis in Detroit for instance.
peavy has been pitching alot better as of late. and if you look at the 3 starts he made last year at the end of the year he pitched phenomal. and willis is a bad example he was all messed up in the head with personal issues, very similar to grienke early in his career. i think oswalt would be a good fit. ive always been a huge fan of him. hes pitched well in interleague games. so that shows he can pitch to AL teams. and he pitches real well over his career in the august and Sept months when games usually matter. and overall hes pitched pretty decently in the playoffs. not sure what i would be willing to give up for him tho. he isnt the oswalt of 4 years ago. i would def give up javy but i dont know what else.
