May 31st Vs. The Indians
First off, I must say, as much as I am usually vehemently opposed to the merchandising money-grab “special occasion” alternate cap gimmick, I really, really, find myself liking the hats from today’s game. They sort of have a 1919 or 1921 feel to them.
Hey, Andy Pettitte, what can you say about him? Talk about a way to start a season, huh? Prior to this year, 1997, 2001 and 2007 were probably his best “10 starts” starts in a season – during his career. And, if 2010 doesn’t top those, it’s right up there with them. Let’s just hope his second half in 2010 is not like his second half in 2001 (where his ERA was 5.22).
Lastly, A-Rod’s slam. Chris Perez was having a pretty nice season, so far, up until that At Bat…boom.
Folks, that was a grand salami!
O.K., thunder and lightning here now…gotta power down…I’m outta here White.

Here’s a purty pitchur of the relatively young Bambino in the white caps along with the Yanks’ bench in 1921:

Note the low-ceiling all wood dugouts at the Polo Grounds
@ Evan3457:
Did Polo Grounds ever get spruced up before they tore it down or did it always feature the low-hanging wood dugouts?
I imagine it did, but I can’t say for sure.
From what I can tell from other pictures available on the web, it was still wood in the 30′s, but the dugouts seem to have gotten concrete floors by the 50′s.
@ Evan3457:
Since I’m sure people (and players) smoked in public all the time back then, it’s a wonder that no part of the Polo Grounds ever caught fire…
