2004 ugly?
Crazy, the Padres list doesn’t even include Bell…Who would’ve thought they’d end up being this good huh?

In 2004, Quantrill was very good until Torre slagged him arm, and Gordon was very good until the post-season.
This year, no one’s going well except for Mo.
For all the hate that Vazquez gets for 2004, Gordon was much more deserving of that anger.
Also, I have always had a contrary view on Torre’s alleged bullpen mis-management: For his last few years on the Yankees, he had a lot of underperforming starters and limited reliability in the ‘pen. When starters have to be taken out in 4th or 5th inning and only 1 or 2 relievers not named Mo have a prayer of holding the line, it doesn’t leave many options. Not to mention the pressure from the then-healthy Boss.
@ Evan3457:
Yeah, but don’t forget the 04 bullpen included the likes of Tanyon Sturtze (1.39 WHIP), Felix Heredia (1.65), Gabe White (1.93), Esteban Loaiza (2.05), among others.

Same here; he was no different from any ML manager in that regard. He had his favorite pitchers, and his closer was used in the 9th inning, when the team had the lead.
