Speaking Hypothetically On A-Rod, Swisher & Others

From tonight’s post-game coverage on YES:
Kim Jones to Joe Girardi: Joe, hypothetically speaking, could you be without Rodriguez, Swisher and Berkman tomorrow?
Girardi: Hypothetically, yes.
It’s exchanges like this that make me wonder why we have the manager’s post-game press conference after each game…
And, speaking hypothetically, isn’t it time to tell Javy Vazquez that he’s going to sit it out until he’s able to throw a major league fastball and/or pitch more than four innings in a start? Or, is that more rhetorical than hypothetical?
Tough game to watch tonight and lots of random thoughts:
Javy Vazquez pitched like Matsuzaka: high pitch count, lots of balls, men on base and seeming on the verge of complete collapse but look at the scoreboard and only gave up 2 runs. He’s not the reason Yanks lost this game.
I can’t stand watching when Gardner or Cervelli are at the plate.
Lance Berkman looks (and plays) like a beer leaguer.
The stadium always seems so quiet (not just today’s game). Where’s the cheering????
We have too many aging veterans starting to show effect of long season. Young and hungary teams like TB and TEX are likely to beat us in playoffs.
I can’t stand listening to Kay, et al as they yuck it up on meaningless matters while ignoring the story line of the game that we and they are watching. (Where is our Keith Hernandez to say that certain Yankee players are underperforming when our own eyes tell us that certain Yankee players are underperforming?)
Uggh. This season may get ugly…..
6 k’s in 4 innings show he had some stuff, 4 bb’s in 4 innings show he didn’t have command.

Forget their record right now. What the past month makes anyone say this is baseballs best team? They dont hit in the clutch. Got way too many streaky hitters. The rotation has 1 sure thing. The list goes on.
Lets not pat Vazquez on the back for gutting thru 4 innings. He wasnt brought in here to be a 5th starter. Right now he doesnt give this team a chance to compete.

Perhaps. But it’s hard to win when the offense has one or two batters (at most) performing up to their capabilities and everyone else trending downward.

I recall having a similar conversation last year when Matsui nearly dug a trench with all the grounders he was sending to second base.
Lots of aging veterans on this team. And for guys like Jeter, post seasons add a whole extra year of wear and tear.
No PEDs. No greenies.
Baseball is becoming a young man’s game again. I think we will see very few stars over 35 maintain production.
