Quick Thoughts On Big Stein Monument Dedication

- A Steve Swindal sighting! Go figure, huh? Where was Joe Malloy?
- Somebody needs to buy Hank Steinbrenner a dress shirt.
- When did Hal Steinbrenner marry Ashley Judd, and, why did Bud Selig marry Gwildor from the Courteney Cox Masters of the Universe movie?
- Nice to see Roy White there – along with Stick, Tino, Boomer and some other (non-Torre, Donnie, Yogi, Reggie) Yankees. But, Lee Mazzilli? How does Lee Maz get to go to Monument Cave while The Toady Trio (of Levine, Trost and Cashman) had to hang back at the dugout?
- Lastly, yes, without question, Big Stein deserves the monument. But, did they have to make it the size of the Hoover Dam? Holy cow, that thing is huge!

I think Hal Stein’s on his 2nd marriage, but hey, nice catch nonetheless. Hope he had enough sense for a pre-nup, though.
There were so many people in Monument Park I thought they’d violate the fire code of max occupancy.
Don’t know about Cashman, but the other two had to stand guard to make sure one of the peasants didn’t jump The Moat.
That monument is so big, it reminds me of Dr. Evil on Mount Rushmore in Austin Powers.

His ballpark; his family runs it. Given his ego, it would’ve been astonishing if it wasn’t larger than all the others.
If fact, I’m suprised they didn’t “go Dr. Evil Volcano hideout” on the side of the Stadium wall.
Remember he already had a statue in the Gate 2 lobby.
Imagine Torre and Mattingly – fly for 5 hours. Walk on the field for 15 minutes, without having your name announced – or, at least, so it seemed on TV. And, then get back on the plane for another 5 hours back. I wonder if they’re having second thoughts on the trip now?
@ Steve Lombardi:
Don’t see why they would. The reason they were there was to pay respects, not to hear their names over the PA system.
Mattingly! SHAVE THAT SOUL PATCH! (seriously, it looks stupid)
Via the Times today:
Measuring 7 feet across and 5 feet high across its bronze face and weighing 760 pounds, a monument/plaque hybrid honoring George Steinbrenner was unveiled Monday night in Monument Park at Yankee Stadium.
It is Memorial Park’s seventh monument and first to honor an owner.
What is striking is its size. With 35 square feet across its face, and looking like a wide-screen television, it dwarfs monuments to Babe Ruth, Lou Gehrig, Joe DiMaggio, Mickey Mantle and Manager Miller Huggins, which are 2 feet by 3 feet, or 6 square feet.

I was not aware of that; thought that Jacob Ruppert would have had a monument. Guess I need to go back to Monument Park as a refresher.
