Yankees Septembers Since 1990

The Yankees are currently 11-14 for the month of September – with two games left to be played this month. Therefore, this will be the first September since 2000 where New York did not play at least .500 baseball in September.
Below is the Yankees record in the month of September for every season between 1990 and 2009.
2009: 19-9 2008: 17-9 2007: 19-8 2006: 18-11 2005: 19-9 2004: 19-9 2003: 18-9 2002: 19-8 2001: 12-6 2000: 13-17 1999: 15-13 1998: 16-11 1997: 17-11 1996: 16-11 1995: 21-6 1994: No Games 1993: 11-15 1992: 14-13 1991: 9-19 1990: 10-18
Note that, between 1995 and 2009, the Yankees averaged 17 wins in the month of September.
Remind me, how’d 2000 work out?

It worked out very well. The difference being that after Sabathia, the 2010 rotation is one big question mark. The 2000 Yanks had Clemens/Pettitte/El Duque.

My larger point, snark free, was that the Yankees played like a house afire in 2001, 02, 03, 04, 05, 06, 07 and 08 with no great carryover into the postseason, so I don’t know that you can draw any conclusions here.
Actually, the Yankees, at best, can only go 13-14 in September.
All three Red Sox games are in October.

I’m not trying to draw a parallel to playing well down the stretch and winning the World Series and you never heard me say that the Yanks needed to enter October with momentum in order to win another title this year.
My point was simply a response to your statement about the 2000 World Series. I don’t see the 2010 Yankees winning the World Series with Sabathia and nobody else. I’m not ruling out the fact that they can put their awful September behind them and rally, I’m simply drawing a distinction between a decent pitching staff in 2000 and a fairly rotten one right now.
