    [Hal] Steinbrenner also talked about the team’s efforts to re-sign Derek Jeter. “We absolutely want him back,” he said. “We absolutely want Mo back. They’re career Yankees. But having said that, we’re running a business. So if there’s a deal to be done, it’s one that both sides will have to be happy with.”

    Very interesting words from Hal. Of course, I expect Jeter and Rivera to come to terms. But, no mention of Pettitte? Is that because the Yankees know he’s retiring? Or, is that because the Yankees don’t want to sign him again?

      I think it’s door #3: they’ve been down this road with Pettitte and know he won’t make up his mind before Christmas. They want him back but know that he likes his space.

      My thoughts exactly. Pettitte knows he can come back if he wants. No use talking about it publicly.
