Darren Pare offers his 5 worst free agent signings ever by the New York Yankees.

So, do you agree, or not?

Can’t argue with the “results” on any of them.
Clemens, 2007 probably doesn’t deserve to rank that high, but it sure didn’t work out.

So, the criteria is based on dollar value? All the worst signings happen to have been since 1996? Please…..

I would think the author is too young to remember.

Pascual Perez was signed to a 3 year deal, got hurt in his first year, came back briefly in his second, and was suspended in his third.

Dave LaPoint was signed to a 3 year deal, stunk in his first two, was released after his second year.

Andy Hawkins was signed to a 3 year deal, stunk all 3 years, released during his 3rd with the team.

Mike Witt was signed to a 3 year deal, after being traded for Dave Winfield, blew out his elbow in his first year, missed the second year, and came back briefly the third.

Ed Whitson, Carl Pavano, Kei Igawa are well known around these parts, no need to rehash.

      @ Raf:

Yes, poorly researched, poorly reasoned article. I think Steve put him up to it… BTW, Don Gullet, Omar Moreno, Dave Collins (mentioned), I could go on, but I’ll need the Pepcid… ;)

      Yep, pretty much.

      @ Steve Lombardi:
As the editor-in-chief, shouldn’t you be trying to weed out the galactically stupid articles from the merely stupid ones? This one was especially bad.

      @ MJ Recanati:
Any Yankees related feature that stimulates some thought and conversation is a good one, IMHO.

      @ Steve Lombardi:
OK, fair enough I suppose. I don’t know if that linked article stimulated thought but I’ll give you conversation.

I love how the author implies that the Yankees outbig the Sox.
