The Yankees are 62-45-1 (.579) in 108 Opening Day games in their history. The 2011 season marks their first season-opening game at home since 2008. Below is a list of Yankees season-opening game starting pitchers since 1973:
.

Interesting that in a nine year period (1985-1993) the Yankees had nine different opening day starting pitchers. What I remember is that in 1965 Jim Bouton—or “Who?,” as Mickey Mantle called him—was the opening day starter.
Kinda not a surprise the Yanks didn’t win the following years:
Phil Niekro 1985
Rick Rhoden 1988
Dennis Rasmussen 1987
Dave LaPoint 1990
Tim Leary 1991
Scott Sanderson 1992
Carl Pavano 2007
Interesting looking at that list that out of the 11 World Series during that time, only C.C. started the opener as well as Game 1 of the World Series the same year (and lost both ironically).

Still, it’s a bit unfair to lump 85, 88 & 2007 with the rest. Especially 85 (97 wins and finishing two games out) & 07 (wild card winner)
