How soon before we have to start calling him Lil’ Papi?
Royal Blue sure does agree with him.
Since joining K.C., his BA/OBA/SLG line, to date, is: .308/.386/.511 in 381 PA.

Talk to me in August when KC resorts to normal

So, Granderson is the real deal since last August and Betemit is not?
I’d say Granderson has had the better career at this point to best judge that as true. This is all relatively new to Betemit, no?
@ clintfsu813:
Betemit was pretty good in 2005. Granderson sucked for many years before his recent hot streak.

I think you meant 2006 but regardless, Steve, it’s 2011 right now. Between 2006 and the time Betemit landed in KC, he sucked for quite some time (2007-2009). Did you conveniently forget that? Did you forget that he was a platoon/replacement player with a career 3.2 bWAR, 2.1 of which was accumulated since the start of the 2010 season? How about the fact that he sucked so bad, he was sent to the minors?
In the meantime, Granderson has put up career 22.7 bWAR. If Granderson “sucked for many years” I’d like to point out your strange definition of sucking. On the one hand you have a guy that was a part-time player and on the other you have a solid starting-caliber player.
Betemit career: .269/.338/.450 (1656 career PA)
Granderson career: .269/.341/.486 (3494 career PA)
Your bias towards Granderson is absurd.
@ MJ Recanati:
Are you telling me that Granderson’s career OPS and Betemit’s are about the same – even with Betemit sucking all those years?
Steve Lombardi wrote:
In 1838 more PA’s, yes, Granderson’s OPS is 0.040 higher.
I’m still not following how Granderson sucks in your eyes considering the fact that he’s been an everyday player putting up a 115 OPS+ and being a nearly 3 WAR player each year while Betemit’s 105 OPS+ comes with a 0.4 WAR each year.
2.83 WAR > 0.35 WAR except, apparently, in Lombardi-land, where the players we don’t like for our own petty reasons suck…

Do you remember Betemit in the field?
Betemit always had the hitting ability.
He just didn’t work at his game until his career was nearly extinguished.
But it’s too bad that Cashman traded Betimit for Swisher, or Betemit could be starting at 3rd for the Yankees right now.
Oh, wait
Betemit is with his 5th organization in the last 8 years. There has to be reason(s) the Braves, Dodgers, Yankees and White Sox discarded him.

For no reason whatsoever, the phrase “lazy turd” comes to my mind.
Until he saw the light; the light being the end of his big league career, and the big bucks that come with it.
I could be wrong; he could be misunderstood.

There is also a reason the Dodgers, Yankees and White Sox acquired him. Everyone knew Betemit had talent, the issue was if he was going to be able to put it together. To his credit, it appears that he has. Good for him.

Do you remember Betemit in the field?

Boy, I sure do. And, I never want to see him in pinstripes on the field again.
Where’s the post about how we let Ian Kennedy get away? He shutout the Phills last night with 10ks.
(I’m kidding)
