Seriously though, the Yankees couldn’t care less that the seats look empty – as long as they’re already paid for.
Customer X bought full season tickets so they can go to Opening Day, Red Sox and Mets games, Old-Timers Day, whenever Jeter potentially gets his 3,000th hit at YS, and playoff games.
The rest of the games will be sold or unsold on the secondary ticket market, which the Yankees still don’t care about since they already have upfront kickbacks from MLB’s “authorized ticket re-seller” anyway.

For the record, the attendance on Friday, when I took that picture, was announced as just over 40,000 near the end of the game. I think it was 40,200 something.
However, that WAS how the stands looked when Garcia threw the first pitch of the game. There was hardly anyone there to see it. Later, much later, they did fill in, some.
I was amazed at how many people showed up in the 2nd, 3rd innings, etc.
With the price of Yankees tickets, would you not want to get your rear end there in time to watch the game from the start?
Also, a lot of people started leaving at 10 pm. The game was close then – and this was a FRIDAY NIGHT. That, I don’t get too. Have Yankees fans turned into Dodger fans – getting there late and leaving early?
On the plus side, I suppose, getting there early – and so few doing it – led to a perk for me. We were in our seats around 5:40…yes, I get there super early, it’s better to get in front of the rush hour traffic than get stuck in it…and we decided to go out to Monument Cave. First time ever for me at the new Stadium. We walked right in, NO LINE and NO WAIT. Go figure! I’ve never seen that before. Usually the line to get in starts getting long as soon as they open the gates.
So how was Monument Cave?
