The stress of Madoff may be getting to him.
He won’t have to worry about Reyes or Betran much longer

My thoughts went to the same place. This is an interview with a man slowly losing his sanity due to the tremendous stress and pressure the Madoff lawsuit is putting on his ownership of the team and his family’s financial future. Explains the interview but doesn’t really excuse it.
I can see why Wilpon might have an axe to grind with Beltran for how he and the Mets squabbled over the past two years. But Wright? No point taking a shot at the only guy on the entire roster that fans absolutely adore AND is signed long term. That’s just dumb.
If he doesn’t want David Wright the Yankees will take him.
Compared to what Madoff stole out of his pockets, Beltran, Reyes, and Wright are the equivalent of petty larcenists.
But really, Wilpon is a rich boy who’s angry his toys were taken away. This is a guy who built a stadium for a team he owns totally as a monument to his unhealthy bunny-boiling like obsession with a baseball team that hasn’t played in NY for over 50 years. So it’s not like this guy had a grasp even before the Madoff thing happened.
But hey, Mike Duplica still loves him.

David Wright will be traded off the Mets, that’s for sure. But it’ll never happen that the Mets trade the face of their franchise across town.
