It’s been a long time since a right-handed pitcher as old as Colon threw a complete game victory for the Yankees on the road. And, it’s been even longer since a non-PED and/or non-knuckleballer did it.
He’s really PITCHING. IF he stays healthy…what a find for Yanks.
Still waiting for the other shoe to drop with that procedure he had done…the story is too Joe Hardy to be true.

Beggin’ the Colonel’s pardon, but Steve, if Colon was doing this for the Genius of Boston you’d be going bananas on Cashman’s ineptitude. Speaking of the 1980 Yankees (I still can’t believe that they got swepted by KC), I started looking at Tommy John’s stats for the year. In a year that he had a K rate of 2.6/9, he managed at age 37 to pitch 265 innings, with a 22-9 record, and a 3.43 era. The thing is (living in Miami I got to watch practically every game on tv) that he threw sinkers and sliders, slowly, and the hitters just could not do anything but beat the ball into the ground, and/or induce DP’s. It’s useful for the younger fan to understand that K’s, while important don’t tell the whole tale. Some guys “know the art of pitching”. Perhaps they are better at reading batter’s swings which can’t be put on a stat sheet, who can tell…So let’s not wring our hands that Colon will “blow-up”, he might, but he knows how to pitch. Really now, who could have predicted this? Every time he gives us a quality start I am pleasantly surprised and loving it.

Velocity’s the same, he’s K’ing more and walking less, and he’s getting less swinging strikes than normal. I think his K rate will come down a bit.
Given that his ERA & FIP are pretty close, I think he’ll continue at the rate he’s going.

Agreed. 100%. The fact that he’s given them 1/3 of the season, with great productivity, means he’s more than already paid for himself this season. The rest is all gravy.
Overall point is that Colon’s doing what he always has done.

The guy was dead for FIVE YEARS and then comes back to live as Greg Maddux? That’s either a Disney fairy tale or there’s a smokin’ gun just waiting to be found in someone’s garage in a coke can…
