New York Yankees star Alex Rodriguez says fans should get off LeBron James’s back over his failure to lead the Miami Heat to the NBA title.

“Winning a championship is not an easy thing to do regardless of talent,” Rodriguez said. “LeBron is a once in a lifetime player, especially the last year.”

Rodriguez asked for patience in judging James. “We need to remember this kid is 26 years old, and celebrate his talent,” Rodriguez said.

Rodriguez said the Heat not winning should not take anything away from Dallas.

“Let’s not take the Mavericks as an afterthought,” said Rodriguez, who lives in Miami and played in Arlington, a suburb of Dallas. “They did everything they had to do to raise a championship.”

Why A-Rod would want to inject himself into this LeBron James thing is beyond me…

      Because he was asked.

CC was asked and commented as well but FoxSports didn’t include his quotes.

That’s fine. But, the smart thing would have been to answer with “That’s not a baseball question. Ask me something about the Yankees.”

I didn’t see anything not smart about what A-Rod said. It’s not easy to win championships, Lebron is only 26 and is a great player and too much attention is being given to the Heat losing instead of the Mavs winning.

      @ throwstrikes:
Agreed. If he’d deflected the question as Steve suggests, I’m sure someone would have got on his case for not being friendly and chatty when the press wants him to be. One thing about A-Rod, he’s damned if he does and damned if he doesn’t. Seems to me he gave a perfectly reasonable and diplomatic answer to the question.

If anyone did something stupid here, it’s not to A-Rod for answering a question he was asked. It’s the reporter who asked the stupid question in the first place.

His comments are his own feelings reflected in the mirror.

Maybe because he went through exactly the same thing, that is, being labeled the best player in the game, and being pilloried as a choker for not performing in the playoffs to the level that people expected of someone of his extreme talent level?

I would think A-Rod might have some insight on the situation LeBron now finds himself. Oh, yes; most definitely I would listen to A-Rod on this subject.
